The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery defender Langston Blackstock was selected to the league’s Week 17/18 Team of the Week.
The award is deserved recognition for Blackstock, who was an effective performer on both sides of the ball while playing full 90-minute shifts in both of the Battery’s games this past week.
Against Birmingham Legion FC on Wednesday, Blackstock was instrumental in preserving the shutout. The right-back recorded one tackle won, one clearance, one interception, three duels won and seven recoveries, while being accurate on 82% of his passes.
He then had a standout performance against North Carolina FC in the Southern Derby. Blackstock assisted Emilio Ycaza’s goal in the 40th minute, which proved to be the match-winner. Additionally, Blackstock recorded two interceptions, four clearances, two duels won and four recoveries, with 94% passing accuracy.
It is Blackstock’s first Team of the Week accolade of the season and brings the Battery’s season total of selections to 17.
Charleston’s next match will be away vs. New Mexico United on Sat., July 12. The Battery are back at Patriots Point on Sat., July 19, to take on Miami FC. Tickets for the home match are on sale now via SeatGeek.com, the club’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
