The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery midfielder Arturo Rodríguez was selected to the league’s Week 16 Team of the Week.
It’s deserved recognition for Rodríguez, whose brace powered Charleston past Phoenix Rising FC in the 4-1 win in front of a sold-out crowd at Patriots Point.
Juan David Torres earned an honorable mention on the Team of the Week bench with his two-assist performance. Both helpers came in the first half with stunning through balls each, and it was the first multi-assist game by a Battery player this year.
Rodríguez commanded the pitch against his former club and struck on either side of halftime. His first goal restored the Battery’s lead right before the interval, collecting a through ball by Torres and then creating the space to slot the breakthrough goal. His second goal was the result of a strong link-up play between him, Cal Jennings and MD Myers, with the finish going through the wickets to put the game out of reach.
Rodríguez also recorded three chances created, two tackles won, seven recoveries, six duels won and 95% passing accuracy for an all-around dominant performance.
It is the third time Rodríguez has landed on the Team of the Week in 2025 and brings the Battery’s total number of selections this season to 16.
Charleston’s next match will be away vs. South Georgia Tormenta FC on Sat., June 28, in the USL Jägermeister Cup group stage. The Battery are back home on Sun., July 6, to host North Carolina FC. Tickets for the nationally televised Independence Day weekend match are on sale now via SeatGeek.com, the club’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
