The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery forward MD Myers was named the league’s Week 10 Player of the Week, presented by Konami eFootball, along with midfielder Arturo Rodriguez and forward Cal Jennings being selected to the Team of the Week.
It’s a deserved set of honors for the trio, who dazzled in the Battery’s 1-3 road win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday.
Midfielder Chris Allan additionally earned an honorable mention on the Team of the Week Bench after contributing three tackles won (match-high), six duels won, four recoveries, one block and one clearance off the line.
Myers takes home the Player of the Week award for the second time in four matchweeks after garnering the accolade in Week 7. The striker was a true tour de force against the Rowdies and bagged a brace after less than half an hour of work. His first goal was the result of strong link-up play with Jennings and the second showcased his savvy positioning to knock in Rodriguez’s saved shot. Myers now has five goals in five league matches and boasts the second-best strike rate (70.6 minutes per goal) in the Championship.
Jennings was sensational in his much-anticipated return to Al Lang Stadium. The striker scored one goal and added one assist to bring his overall goal contributions to nine (seven goals, two assists), which stands as the best in the Championship, and extended his streak of games with a goal contribution to seven. Jennings’ conversion from the penalty spot also put him back into a tie for the league’s Golden Boot lead.
Rodriguez was a bit of an unsung hero in the Battery’s win and had a hand in two of the club’s goals despite not appearing on the scoresheet. The Mexican midfielder won the penalty that put the Battery ahead in the 7th minute, and his shot from outside the box led to the spilled ball that Myers knocked in for the third goal. Additionally, Rodriguez recorded a match-high five chances created, along with six duels won, three recoveries, two accurate long balls, two successful dribbles and an 89% passing accuracy.
The latest accolades bring the club’s total Team of the Week selections to 11 in 2025.
Charleston’s next match will be at home vs. San Antonio FC on Sat., May 17, for Military Appreciation Night at Patriots Point. Tickets for the game are on sale now via SeatGeek.com, the club’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
