
The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery midfielders Emilio Ycaza and Juan David Torres and forward Nick Markanich were named to the league’s Week 22 Team of the Week.
The trio combined for two goals and two assists in the Battery’s 5-0 victory over Indy Eleven on Friday.
Ycaza has been a thorn in Indy’s side and Friday only continued that theme. Ycaza scored the Battery’s second goal of the match and also tallied three interceptions, six recoveries and five duels won. He now has a total of three goals and two assists across five career matches against Indy. It is Ycaza’s third selection to the Team of the Week this year.
Torres recorded his fourth assist of the year and turned in a strong showing on both sides of the ball. In addition to the helper, Torres registered two chances created, two successful dribbles, two recoveries, four duels won and one interception. The selection is Torres’ first of the season.
Markanich had a complete performance with one goal and one assist against Indy. He additionally recorded two successful dribbles, five recoveries, six duels won, one clearance and a 92% passing accuracy. A Team of the Week regular, this is Markanich’s seventh selection of the year.
The nods to the Team of the Week bring the Battery’s 2024 selections total to 24.
