The Charleston Battery have teamed up with the American Cancer Society during Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign, the club announced Thursday.
The Men Wear Pink campaign goal is to raise awareness and essential funds in support of breast cancer research, services and education around screenings and risk reduction.
The Battery’s fundraising initiatives will include a player-worn warm-up jersey auction, with proceeds going directly to the Men Wear Pink campaign. These white and pink warm-up jerseys will be worn by the players at the Battery’s Breast Cancer Awareness match on Sat., Oct. 7. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match to show their support for breast cancer patients and survivors.
Breast cancer survivors are invited to participate in a Breast Cancer Survivor Player Tunnel at the match on Oct. 7. This activity will take place during pregame on the field and provide an opportunity for participants to welcome the Charleston Battery players to the pitch for kickoff. To participate in the Breast Cancer Survivor Player Tunnel, please sign up here.
Merchandise supporting the campaign can also be purchased online prior to the match or at the stadium on Oct. 7. The items include a black t-shirt with a pink Battery logo and a Hope Jersey. A portion of the proceeds from each Breast Cancer Awareness merchandise sale will be donated to the Men Wear Pink campaign.
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. This year alone, nearly 300,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Every day, the American Cancer Society is saving more lives from breast cancer than ever before by helping people reduce their risk of breast cancer or to detect it early when it’s easier to treat. They provide free information and services, fund groundbreaking research, and work to ensure access to mammograms for those who need them.
Fans can also show their support by donating directly to the Charleston Battery’s Men Wear Pink campaign here.
Tickets for the Breast Cancer Awareness Match on October 7 are available now via SeatGeek.com, the Battery’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
