The USL Championship provided clarification on Thursday regarding group standings and playoff seedings as it pertains to the Charleston Battery. With Charleston unable to complete its full 16-game schedule for the regular season, the points per game model voted on by the USL Championship Board of Governors will be applied to determine final group standings and home advantage for playoff games.
The decision, affirmed Thursday by the league’s Competition Strategy Committee, means that the Battery will finish second in Group H behind Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Charleston will face the winner of Group G in the first round of the playoffs. Birmingham Legion FC and Charlotte Independence are currently tied for first place in Group G heading into the final weekend.
With 1.93 points per game, Charleston currently sit ahead of the Group G co-leaders in points per game. In the event that Charleston advance to the conference semifinal and the Tampa Bay Rowdies are eliminated in the first round, the Battery will have the opportunity to host the conference semifinal at Patriots Point.
After Wednesday’s loss against The Miami FC, every point matters for the Battery. Don’t miss a minute of the action on Saturday as the Black and Yellow look to close out the regular season strong and build momentum leading into the playoffs.
