The Blackbaud Non-Profit of the Match for the Battery’s April 8th home game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds is the Charleston Animal Society.
Formed in 1874, the Charleston Animal Society was one of the first animal protection organizations in the country. Charleston Animal Society’s primary mission is to prevent cruelty to animals through a variety of efforts and programs. The organization positively impacts the lives of an estimated 20,000 animals per year.
The Charleston Animal Society is a no-kill, no-harm shelter located in North Charleston. Charleston Animal Society is nationally recognized as a model for animal shelter excellence and helped Charleston County become the first no-kill community in the Southeast.
The organization works to achieve its mission by taking in stray and lost animals, finding foster homes, offering low cost spaying and neutering, and finding homes for animals through adoption.
Charleston Animal Society’s medical fund spends more than $500,000 annually to care for our community’s abused, abandoned, and injured animals. Battery fans can help Charleston Animal Society through donations of time or money. Those interested in donating to the Animal Society can text nokill to 855-735-2437 or visit charlestonanimalsociety.org/donate. Donations can be put towards items on organization’s wishlist or mending injured animals’ bones.
For those who wish to donate their time, there are several opportunities to volunteer with Charleston Animal Society throughout the year. Charleston Animal Society is always looking for people to help out in the shelter or during community events including annual Chili Cookoff. The organization is also regularly looking for foster family and permanent homes for their animals.
Charleston Animal Society will have a table set up on the concourse by the west gate during the Battery’s match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on April 8th; fans are encouraged to stop by and check out their raffle and learn more about the organization. Charleston Animal Society will also participate in the Blackbaud Crossbar Challenge at halftime for the chance to win a $2,000 donation from the Charleston Battery.
