The Charleston Battery’s home stadium will host the Atlas Technologies 17th Annual Bocce Bash presented by MUSC Health benefiting Special Olympics South Carolina on May 20th, 2017.
B Sports Entertainment donated the MUSC Health Stadium for the event in an effort to help raise funds for Special Olympics. The stadium donation is one of many BSE will make in the coming year.
“We look for opportunities to help worthy organizations however and whenever we can and this is one we didn’t want to miss,” said Charleston Battery and MUSC Health Stadium owner Eric Bowman. “We’ve hosted Bocce Bash in the past and it’s always a great event that raises tremendous funds for Special Olympics. We love being able to transform our soccer field into bocce ball courts for the day to raise money for the athletes.”
Bocce Bash, now in its 17th year, has raised over $800,000 for Special Olympics South Carolina; last year’s Bash raised $93,000 on its own. The event is now a mainstay in the community and has been dubbed the “Best Outdoor Charity Event in Charleston”. Bocce Bash’s organizers have set their goal at $100,000 for this year’s tournament.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to once again host the Special Olympics Bocce Bash at MUSC Health Stadium’s gorgeous facility,” said Special Olympics SC’s Director of Marketing and Development, Amy Gege. “The pristine grass surface, stadium amenities and helpful staff make it the perfect home for our fun-filled day. This event and partnership with the stadium has allowed SOSC to raise significant funds for our 25,000+ Special Olympics athletes over the past 17 years. We are overwhelmed by the loyalty, enthusiasm and support for Bocce Bash from this community and are anxious for May 20th!”
The event raises funds through sponsorship packages and team entry. Bocce Bash pits 128 four-person teams against each other in a bracket-style tournament. All players receive breakfast, lunch, adult beverages, bottled water, and an event t-shirt with their team entry fee. There are still 22 team spots available. Team registration is $500 and can be completed here.
The 128 teams play on 32 sponsored courts that sprawl across MUSC Health Stadium’s soccer field. Court sponsorship packages are $1,500 and include one team entry and logo representation on signage, the event t-shirt, the stadium’s 3,000 square foot video board, and the Bocce Bash website.
One hundred percent of proceeds from the event are donated to Special Olympics South Carolina to help them complete their mission of providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The South Carolina branch of the world-wide organization served 25,000 athletes in 2016.
