This week’s Blackbaud Non-Profit of the Match is the the Francis R. Willis SPCA in Dorchester County. The organization works within the community to protect animals by feeding the hungry, providing shelter to the homeless, and reuniting lost pets with owners.
The SPCA facilitates adoptions and finds homes for as many stray animals as possible. In addition, the organization fights overpopulation by encouraging spaying and neutering and educating new owners. The FRW SPCA completes this mission while practicing animal kindness and instilling humane principles into society through the prevention of cruelty to animals.
The SPCA offers many services including dog and cat adoptions, medical check-ups, lost and found, community outreach, owner surrender, and pet food pantry.
The pet food pantry works to keep residents of Dorchester County with their pets even in times of hardship. The FRW SPCA Food Bank provides pet food and other necessities to those who cannot afford to provide for their pets.
Battery fans can join in and help the FRW SPCA achieve their mission by becoming foster parents. Short-term foster homes are needed for nursing mothers and motherless kittens and puppies. The organization also needs foster families for their Second Chance foster program, which helps those animals who need heart worm treatment and/or have other medical issues.
Finally, the FRW SPCA is in need of volunteers for their PetSmart cat adoption program. This volunteer opportunity involves feeding and cleaning boxes cats/kittens in the adoption area in the PetSmart store at Azalea Square.
