CHARLESTON, SC – The 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Championship will be played at MUSC Health Stadium, officials confirmed Thursday.
The championship match will be played on November 13th in Charleston. The first three rounds of the ACC tournament will be held on the campuses of the higher seeded teams. First round games begin on November 2nd, followed by quarterfinals on the 6th and semifinals on the 9th.
“Charleston, South Carolina represents a showcase platform for the ACC’s premiere men’s soccer game,” said Brandon Neff, ACC Assistant Commissioner for Championships. “Our student-athletes and fans will enjoy an outstanding championship experience at MUSC Health Stadium while also having the unique opportunity to experience a destination city within the conference’s footprint. We look forward to working with the staffs at the Charleston Battery as well as the Charleston Area Sports Commission.”
The ACC is one of the best men’s soccer conferences in the country, winning seven of the last eleven national championships. The conference has had at least one representative in the College Cup for the last 15 years, with seven teams earned NCAA bids last season, more than any other conference.
A national-best seven ACC players were named NSCAA All-Americans in 2015. Eight of the 20 first round picks in the MLS SuperDraft in January were ACC players. The ACC had 14 total representatives chosen in the draft, more than any other conference.
Several teams from the Carolinas compete in the ACC including 2015 NCAA Tournament Finalists Clemson University. Clemson will be seeking its 12th ACC title and a return to the NCAA Tournament next fall. The Tigers fell to Syracuse in the semifinals of the ACC Championship last year after finishing second in the regular season with a record of 17-3-4.
