GREENSBORO, N.C. – Notre Dame holds the top seed for the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, which gets underway Sunday, Oct. 30, with quarterfinal matches at four campus sites.
The Fighting Irish (12-2-4, 7-1-1 ACC) will play host to eighth-seeded NC State (10-7-1, 4-5-1 ACC) in quarterfinal action Sunday. Notre Dame earned a share of its first ACC regular-season title with a 2-0 win over Miami on Oct. 27.
Other Sunday matchups include No. 2 seed and ACC regular season co-champion Clemson (13-3-2, 7-1-2 ACC), hosting No. 7 Miami (10-8-0, 5-5-0 ACC), No. 3 Duke (12-4-2, 7-2-1 ACC) at home against No. 6 Florida State (13-2-2, 6-2-2 ACC), and No. 4 North Carolina (11-3-3, 6-2-2 ACC), playing host to No. 5 Virginia (13-3-2, 6-2-2 ACC).
All of Sunday’s quarterfinal matches will kick off at 1 p.m. The winners advance to MUSC Health Stadium at Charleston, South Carolina, for semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Championship will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6 at noon. As has been the norm in recent years, the 2016 ACC Women’s Soccer Championship is packed with elite teams. Six of the eight teams in this year’s tournament field are ranked inside the top 16 of both the NSCAA and Soccer America polls.
The semifinal and championship matches will be shown nationally via ESPN platforms, with the semifinals set for ACC Network Extra and the title game for ESPNU. Television designations for the quarterfinal matches will be announced when confirmed.
