The Charleston Battery and SC United Bantams have signed an affiliation agreement for the 2017 season, the Club announced Tuesday morning. The Bantams join Myrtle Beach Mutiny, South Georgia Tormenta, and Tri Cities Otters as the Battery’s Premier Development League (PDL) affiliates for the current year.
SC United are the closest affiliate, geographically, to Charleston. The Bantams play in Columbia, SC at Irmo High School. The Club has played in the South Atlantic division of the PDL since 2012.
The Battery and the Bantams have had an informal partnership in years past. Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser has previously sent players to Columbia to earn playing time when they weren’t getting minutes with the USL club. Former Battery players Robert Beebe and Austin Savage played with the Bantams in 2016 and 2014 respectively.
Two of the Battery’s affiliates will meet this Tuesday, May 23 as the Bantams play their first PDL match of the season against Tri-Cities Otters at Irmo High School.
