Coming off an impressive first season with the Battery, Mauro Cichero is set to return for the 2021 season, pending league and federation approval. Cichero will be looking to add even more firepower in 2021 after scoring 2 goals over 13 appearances in 2020.
Mauro registered 838 minutes and made 10 starts for Charleston this past season while creating 13 chances out of the midfield. His first year in the Black and Yellow will be most remembered for jumpstarting the Battery’s two-month, nine-game unbeaten streak on August 5. During a rainy, nail-biting battle against Atlanta United 2, Cichero scored a last-minute equalizer at the death to salvage a point. And just ten days later, Mauro scored again against Atlanta in an exciting 3-2 comeback victory.
He ended the season fifth in shots with 14 while providing 2 assists for the year, just one off the team lead. “I’m excited to be back for the 2021 season,” Mauro noted. “I can’t wait to build on the momentum from last year and grow as a team in front of our fans.” If 2020 was any indication, Mauro’s knack for finding opportunities will continue to complement the Battery’s offensive attack in 2021.
