The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery midfielder Emilio Ycaza was named to the league’s Week 30 Team of the Week.
Ycaza led the way with two goals in the second half as the Battery shut out Rhode Island FC for a sensational 2-0 win at Patriots Point.
The captain’s first goal was a conversion from the penalty spot and came after he won the penalty himself just moments before, breaking the game open in the 77th minute. Ycaza then struck again in the 84th minute to knock in the rebound from Miguel Berry’s shot to double Charleston’s lead and effectively put the game to bed while the Battery also had a one-man advantage.
Ycaza’s brace brought his season total to eight goals, which adds to his career-best single-season scoring mark. Additionally, Ycaza also recorded five duels won, five recoveries and one interception.
It’s the fourth Team of the Week selection for Ycaza this year, and it brings Charleston’s total to 21 Team of the Week/Round accolades in 2026.
Luis Zamudio and Joey Akpunonu received honorable mentions to the Team of the Week Bench for their stout defensive performances in the shutout victory.
