- Conference title defense has new challengers
Two new clubs will face Charleston in the Eastern Conference this year: Rhode Island FC and North Carolina FC. The Battery’s inaugural meeting with expansion side Rhode Island will take place on April 6 in the Ocean State. Charleston then host RIFC on October 19 for the reverse fixture. North Carolina are not strangers to the Championship and rejoin the league after spending 2021-23 in League One. Charleston face NCFC on March 9 in Cary for the season opener and again on June 28 at Patriots Point.
- On the road again…
Charleston start the season with six of their first eight matches on the road. This could bode well for the Battery, who sported the league’s best away record in 2023.
- Earning our miles
The Battery’s longest away day of the year comes when they play Oakland Roots SC on March 16, clocking in at 2,385 miles between the two stadiums. The second-furthest trip is to Monterey Bay FC on May 29, a cool 2,378 miles.
- Fun for all
The Battery are slated to play every club in the league; home-and-away against every team in the Eastern Conference and six home and six away matches against teams in the Western Conference. Important to note that Memphis 901 FC and FC Tulsa joining the Western Conference in 2024.
- The Southern Derby returns
The supporter-led Southern Derby will be back up for grabs with NCFC joining Charleston in the Championship. The winner of the Southern Derby will be determined on June 28, when North Carolina make their return to Charleston for the first time since 2019. In the previous five meetings between the sides, Charleston hold a 3W-0L-2D record over NCFC.
- First-time visitors
Teams making their first visit to Patriots Point include El Paso Locomotive FC (May 24), North Carolina (June 28) and Rhode Island (October 19).
- Weekend warriors at Patriots Point
Breaking down the home matches by day of the week, the Battery play one on Tuesday, three on Friday and 13 on Saturday. Five of the Battery’s final seven matches will be played at home, all on Saturday.
