Luis Zamudio (Zah-moo-dee-oh) enters his first season with the Battery after joining the club in January 2025.
Zamudio, 26, spent the past three seasons with Major League Soccer’s D.C. United and has gained experience in MLS, USL Championship and League One, and Liga MX.
The 6-4 shot-stopper was primarily a reserve with D.C. from 2022 to 2024, with loan stints to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in 2023 and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in 2024. Zamudio posted an undefeated record of 2W-0L-3D with Pittsburgh and recorded four shutouts.
Zamudio had a breakout campaign in 2022 with Loudoun United FC, starting 27 matches and registering seven clean sheets. Zamudio recorded the second-most saves in the Championship with 105, including two penalty saves. He also rejoins former Loudoun teammate Houssou Landry in Charleston.
Before D.C. and Loudoun, Zamudio competed with Fort Lauderdale CF (now Inter Miami II) in 2021 and North Texas SC in 2020.
Zamudio is a product of Liga MX side Club América, whose academy he first joined in 2015. Zamudio played for the U-20 side from 2018 to 2019 and was elevated to the first team in August 2019 as the understudy to Memo Ochoa.
A native of Las Vegas, Zamudio is a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico through his family. Zamudio’s nickname is “pulpo”, which is “octopus” in Spanish.
Zamudio wears the number 56 as a tribute to his parents.
