The Charleston Battery will kick off its 2017 camp series with a four-day spring break camp on April 10-13 at MUSC Health Stadium. The camp series is presented by Lloyd’s Soccer.
The camp program will be revamped for the coming year but will still be under the direction of former MLS, U.S. youth international and Futsal National Team Player Temoc Suarez. Registration is now open and can be completed online HERE.
Open to boys and girls aged 5-14, the camp will focus on Technical Development and be divided based on age and skill level at the discretion of Temoc and his coaching staff. Suarez is entering his eleventh year as the Charleston Battery’s Camp Director.
Since taking over as Camp Director for the Charleston Battery, Suarez has devoted his time and effort to growing the game of soccer in the area. Suarez and his staff have focused on teaching individual technical skills to over 50,000 campers during their ten year involvement with the Charleston Battery. The group of coaches continues to develop age and skill appropriate curriculums that teach the physical, technical, tactical, and psychological aspects of the game.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have Temoc as our Camp Director,” said Charleston Battery Head Coach and General Manager Mike Anhaeuser. “He has a great rapport with the young players, which makes for a fun atmosphere conducive to learning. Temoc and his staff do a fantastic job of teaching the fundamental skills that will help kids excel at the next level as they progress in their careers.”
In addition to his extensive coaching experience, Suarez is the most decorated soccer player in history to emerge from South Carolina. The Mount Pleasant native played three years in the MLS with the Dallas Burn before moving on to the USL, NPSL, and MISL. Suarez played one season for the Battery, scoring five goals in 25 appearances.
During his time at Bishop England High School, Suarez was named a First Team All-American and was selected to represent the United States in the U-17 FIFA World Championship. Following high school, Suarez played four seasons at UNC Chapel Hill where he scored 47 goals and was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year.
The spring break camp will include technical training, scrimmages, a private stadium tour, a ticket to a Battery home game, a discount coupon to the Pro Shop and an autograph and Q+A session with Charleston Battery players. Half day camp runs from 9:00 am -12:00 pm and costs $150, full day camp runs from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (includes lunch) and costs $245.
Parents who register their children prior to January 21st will receive a $20 discount.
The spring break camp is the first of several during the 2017 calendar year. Summer camp dates will be made available in the near future.
