The Charleston Battery are pleased to confirm the signing of Colombian striker Camilo Sánchez to the 2026 roster on Wednesday, pending league and federation approval. The veteran arrives in Charleston with a well-traveled international club résumé to his name.
Sánchez, 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in Europe and Asia and now embarks on his first experience playing in North America after earning a roster spot following a successful spell as a trialist.
“I hope for many great moments with the club and to be able to help them continue fulfilling the goals of the season,” said Sánchez. “The group is very competitive, which allows me to push myself more every single day. Plus, my new teammates have made me feel very welcome since the first day I arrived. The Battery are the highest-scoring team in the league, and I feel like I can contribute in a positive way.”
Sánchez most recently competed for Pegadaian Championship side PSIS Semarang in Indonesia, where he featured in 11 matches and scored one goal in the 2025-26 season.
The bulk of Sánchez’s career has been played in Malta, for clubs Sannat Lions FC, Luqa St. Andrew’s FC and Melita FC, along with Libyan side Abu Salim SC. Sánchez has played in 70 matches and scored 20 goals across all competitions in his senior career.
“Camilo has been training with us, waiting on his approval,” said Head Coach Ben Pirmann. “In that time, he has shown himself to be a quality target center-forward with incredible hold-up play, soft feet and a strong aerial presence. He has also illustrated his selflessness and team orientation. Camilo is a kind man, and we are excited to officially welcome him to the Battery.”
“Camilo is very strong and uses his body very well, providing the team with an outlet that we have not had this season. He makes the other players around him better by freeing them up to run off of him.”
The 6-2 striker hails from Barranquilla, Colombia, and developed at the youth team Club Deportivo Unión Real Villanueva and in the youth sector of Uniautónoma FC.
Sánchez joins the Battery at a crucial time in the final third of the season, when the team has the league’s best offense and is fighting for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
“I’m focused on helping the team get to a better position in the standings and make a run in the playoffs, because this city, the team, and the supporters deserve it,” said Sánchez.
Sánchez will wear the number 9.
