The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery midfielders Juan David Torres and Houssou Landry were named to the league’s Week 8/9 Team of the Week. The duo earned the honors after a stellar showing in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Hartford Athletic, accounting for three of Charleston’s four goals.
Arturo Rodriguez was also recognized with an honorable mention to the Team of the Week Bench after registering one assist and a match-high four chances created.
Torres was the standout performer of the day, tallying two goals and one assist, contributing to all but one of the Battery’s scores. His first goal came in the 38th minute with a strong strike from outside the box to the near post. Torres found the net again in the 64th minute directly from a corner kick, a sensational Olimpico for his third goal of the year.
Houssou did it all on both sides of the ball. The Ivorian scored his first goal of the season in the 56th minute, assisted by Torres, from inside the box. On defense, Houssou recorded one tackle won, two interceptions, four duels won and seven recoveries while deputizing at left-back. He was also efficient with his distribution, accurate on 43 of 49 passes.
The latest accolades bring the club’s total Team of the Week selections to eight in 2025.
Charleston are back in action on Tues., May 6, against D.C. United at Audi Field in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 at 7 p.m. ET.
