The Charleston Battery are excited to announce Thursday the re-signing of forward Jackson Conway to the club’s roster, pending league and federation approval. Conway returns for the 2025 season after a productive 2024 campaign.
Conway, 23, featured in 32 matches across all competitions for the Battery in 2024 and scored four goals en route to the club’s run to the Eastern Conference Final.
“What brought me back the most was the bright future, the people and the club here in Charleston,” said Conway. “The connection I’ve built with everyone around me is unmatched to anywhere I’ve been before and it makes fighting for this club and these fans an honor.
“I do feel there’s some unfinished business. This team has everything it takes to compete at the top level and we showed that last year. The squad is a playoff and championship contender, it’s where we want and should be. I think 2024 gives us a chip on our shoulder going into the new season, which hopefully can push us to be champions in 2025.”
Conway was an impact player off the bench in the first half of the season, scoring all four of his goals as a substitute. Conway’s four tallies were also scored at Patriots Point. The forward’s growing impact in the second half of the campaign saw him start in the Battery’s three playoff matches.
“Jackson had great improvements through the 2024 season, which is the most important character trait in our footballers,” said Head Coach Ben Pirmann. “He is an important piece in our attack and in our club, on and off the field. We have very aggressive goals for 2025 and Jackson is a massive part of those plans if we want to compete at the highest levels possible.
“Additionally, Jackson is a top human being. We are lucky to have him on our team and our community is better with him in the Lowcountry.”
Prior to joining the Battery, Conway was a product of Atlanta United FC’s academy and was signed as a Homegrown player. Conway debuted in late 2020 at 19 years old and developed into a proven threat in attack with Atlanta’s first team and reserve side, scoring in the Concacaf Champions League (now ‘Cup’), MLS, USL Championship, and MLS NEXT Pro.
The 6-2 forward tallied 28 goals and three assists in 88 matches with Atlanta United 2 (2018-23) and two goals in 12 matches with Atlanta United (2020-23).
Born in Leeds, England, Conway grew up in Marrietta, Ga., and first joined Atlanta’s academy in 2016. He holds citizenship for the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
After finding success in 2024 with the Battery, Conway is eager for another season in the Lowcountry.
“The fans were everything last year,” said Conway. “They packed out the stadium, were there through the wins and losses, and really pushed us to do well, on and off the field. They didn’t deserve for us to fall short last year, and the team and I will do everything to bring home a trophy for them.”
Conway will retain the number 36.
The addition of Conway brings the Battery’s total number of players to 20. The club will continue to assess players and construct the roster in the build-up to the season opener on March 8 against Louisville City FC.
