The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery players Nathan Dossantos, Aaron Molloy and Nick Markanich were named to the league’s Week 3 Team of the Week.
The trio represented the Battery’s complete performance on both sides of the ball in the 4-0 victory over New Mexico United. MD Myers received an honorable mention on the Team of the Week bench with an assist and four shots on target.
Dossantos was a force at left-back and had a hand in the Battery’s first two goals – providing the initial throw-in on Markanich’s opening goal and assisting Arturo Rodriguez’s strike in the second half. The Canadian defender also recorded nine recoveries, four interceptions, three duels won and two clearances.
Molloy turned in the performance of the game with a Goal of the Week-nominated strike to put the game to bed. The Irish midfielder also made a crucial clearance off the goal line to stop New Mexico from tying the score and initiated the counter-press that led to Rodriguez’s goal. Molloy additionally recorded seven duels won, six recoveries and an 89% passing accuracy.
Markanich continued his hot start to 2024 with the opening goal of the night, his second in as many games. The attacker totaled seven duels won, seven recoveries, two interceptions, two shots on target and two chances created.
The nods are the first of 2024 for all three players. Molloy earned honorable mentions the first two matchweeks of the season and Markanich was a five-time selection in 2023.
Charleston will return home on Tues., April 9, against Louisville City FC after a pair of upcoming away games. Tickets for the April 9 fixture are on sale now via SeatGeek.com, the club’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
