Charleston Battery winger Fidel Barajas has been called up to the Mexico U-17 national team again for the country’s upcoming matches in the UNCAF FIFA Forward U-16 Tournament in Honduras.
El Tri are facing the youth squads of Nicaragua, Guatemala and Costa Rica from October 17-21 as members of Group B in the tournament. Mexico will play a fourth match on October 23 against a to-be-determined opponent from Group A (Honduras, Panama, El Salvador and Cuba) based on the results of the preceding fixtures.
Barajas rejoins the Mexico U-17s after an impressive month of October with the Battery. The winger tallied two assists in three matches (two starts) after making his professional debut on October 1 against Hartford Athletic.
Before the tournament in Honduras, Fidel competed with the Mexico U-17s in Poland against the youth national teams of Portugal, Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic in the Syrenka Cup. Barajas tallied two goals against the Czech Republic and one assist against Uzbekistan.
Barajas has made six total appearances for the Mexico U-17 squad, scoring three goals. The matches come as part of El Tri’s preparations for qualification for the 2023 U-17 FIFA World Cup.
