The Charleston Battery ran a free, three-day camp for the Humanities Foundation last week at MUSC Health Stadium.
The Humanities Foundation is a nonprofit located on Daniel Island just a few miles from the Battery’s home stadium. The organization works to develop the highest quality affordable and workforce housing possible in the area. Another important piece of the Humanities Foundation’s mission is to develop the community through affordability, education, and advocacy.
As part of that mission, the Humanities Foundation partnered with the Battery to teach some of its youngest residents soccer. For most, it was their first time playing the game and they got to do it in the same place Charleston’s only professional soccer players train every day.
“It was a pleasure working with the Battery this year to introduce the game of soccer to these youngsters,” said Humanities Foundation’s Director of Human Services Lamar Mowatt. “ I know that this sparked some interest in my group! I look forward to our continued partnership with the Battery.”
In addition to the three-day camp, all of the kids in the group will receive complimentary tickets to the Battery’s next home game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on June 23.
