In Episode 3 of Behind the Battery, we take a look at one of the most iconic figures in Charleston Battery history, head coach Mike Anhaeuser.
Mike Anhaeuser joined the Charleston Battery as a player in 1994 after graduating from Indiana University, where he won an NCAA Championship in 1988. Anhaeuser played six seasons as a midfielder for the Battery making 115 appearances for the club.
Anhaeuser switched to a coaching role in 1999 and served as an assistant under Alan Dicks and Chris Ramsey before becoming the head coach in 2005. During his time as head coach, the Fort Wayne, IN native has won two championships (2010, 2012), earned USL Coach of the Year (2007), reached the US Open Cup Final (2008), and helped numerous players move on to the MLS.
In 2008 Anhaeuser was given the title of general manager, overseeing all soccer operations at the Club. Anhaeuser was inducted into the USL Hall of Fame following the 2013 season.
