A strong, attacking wing-back, AJ Paterson is back for his fourth season in Black and Yellow.
AJ was a key piece throughout the 2021 season, appearing in 23 matches (22) starts while handling action for both club and country. The Grenadian international led the Battery in aerial duels won (45) and tallied the second-most interceptions (39). He additionally registered 16 chances created.
AJ was drafted by Major League Soccer side New York City FC in 2018 but did not sign a contract with the club.
The Key Largo native had a short stint with Bethlehem Steel FC, now Philadelphia Union 2, in 2018 before signing with Charleston. Paterson scored 4 goals on the year in 2019, good for third-best on the team.
Internationally, AJ was called into the Grenada National Team for the first time in 2018. More recently, he also featured for the Grenada National team, captaining his country in its qualification for the 2021 Gold Cup and again during CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
