Deshawon Nembhard signed for the Battery during the 2019 offseason. The Dallas, Texas native joins the Black and Yellow after spending time with FC Miami City of USL League Two and looks to provide depth to the Battery backline. We caught up with the 6’1 defender to learn more about his life away from the pitch in this week's Q&A.
A: I’m originally from Corozal Town, Belize, but I moved to Dallas when I was five years old. I consider it my home town just as much.
Q: What is one thing you must have when traveling?
A: My headphones for sure. It’s the one item I probably can't live without in general, honestly. I’m big into music and privacy on trips, so headphones are a must.
Q: What would you be if you weren’t a professional soccer player?
A: If I wasn’t playing soccer, I’d more than likely be coaching it. That’s just how deep my love for the game runs. I would be involved with it in some way, even if I couldn’t play.
Q: What is the best advice you have ever received?
A: You will be defined as a man not only by your principles, but also by the measures you are willing to take to protect those principles. Meaning that if you live by a principle or an idea, live it unwaveringly.
Q: Who has been your biggest motivation?
A: I’m motivated by a lot of people but my biggest motivator is myself. I'm a big believer that your biggest motivations should always be internal.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Charleston?
A: So far, I’d have to say it’s how nice the people have been. I’ve lived in other places where the people aren’t as hospitable, so it's definitely been refreshing.
Q: What is the best purchase you have made so far this year?
A: I haven’t spent much money during social distancing, but I’d probably have to say the workout equipment I’ve been using these past couple months at home. Amazon always comes in handy.
Q: What is one thing that is overrated?
Q: What is one thing you couldn't live without?
A: Definitely music. I listen to it all day every day so I don't know if I could function without it.
Q: What is your biggest pet peeve?
A: Being late. I’d honestly rather not show up than show up late to something, which is probably why I skipped so many classes in college.
Q: Which teammate takes the most selfies?
A: AJ Patterson!
Q: What is your go to karaoke song?
A: Pink Matter by Frank Ocean
Q: If you could be anywhere in the world where would it be and what would you be doing?
A: I would probably be back in Belize hanging out with my family that I don't get to see too often.
Q: If you had to choose one teammate to survive on a deserted island with, who would it be?
A: Nicque Daley because I know for a fact, some how some way he would find wifi and an outlet, and a way to get to the nearest Walmart. Most resourceful guy on the team hands down.
