Ozzie Alonso is the only player with direct Charleston Battery ties to make the Top 15 list. Alonso played in Challenge Cup with the Battery in 2008, then returned with Seattle in 2014 and 2017.

Alonso signed with the Battery in 2008 and went on to start 31 games and score seven goals. The defensive midfielder helped lead the Battery to the U.S. Open Cup Final in ‘08 and was named team MVP, team Newcomer of the Year, team Players’ Player of the Year, and USL-1 Rookie of the Year.

Following his head-turning season with the Battery, Alonso signed with the Seattle Sounders for the Club’s inaugural MLS season. He would go on to become the Sounders’ all-time appearance leader with 277. While with Seattle, Alonso won four U.S. Open Cups, one MLS Cup, and one MLS Supporters’ Shield.

Alonso is a four time MLS All-Star and was named to the MLS Best XI in 2012. Following his release from Seattle Alonso signed with Minnesota United in January of 2019.
