Battery signs Drew Cavanagh & Andres Perez
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has signed another College of Charleston product for the upcoming USL First Division season. Defender Drew Cavanagh joins the Battery for his rookie pro-season. Cavanagh excelled with the College of Charleston in 2004 and was a key member of the Cougar team that won the 2004 SoCon Championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1996. Andres Perez joins the Charleston Battery from Paraguay First Division side Olimpia, FC; Perez has represented Paraguay at the U17 and U20 levels.
Drew Cavanagh
Defender, Drew Cavanagh was a four-year starter at the College of Charleston and anchored a Cougar defense that in 2004 allowed only 1.13 goals per game and had a league-best nine shut-outs. Cavanagh recently returned from the 2005 MLS combine where he was the sole representative of the Southern Conference.
A native of Cleveland, OH, Cavanagh, 6'0, 180 lbs., 22 yrs., is majoring in Political Science. Cavanagh spent his last two years of high school at the Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Florida where he played for the PDL Bradenton Athletics.
Andres Perez
Andres Perez joins the Charleston Battery from Paraguay First Division side Olimpia, FC. A native of Asuncion, Paraguay, Perez-Matto is a member of the Paraguay U20 Men's National team. Perez-Matto, 6-0, 175 lbs., 20 yrs., has also represented Paraguay at the U17 level.
Perez-Matto is the second young Paraguayan prospect to sign with the Charleston Battery and joins his national team team-mate, Jesus Martinez on the 2005 squad.
Carolina Challenge Cup
The 2005 Carolina Challenge Cup concludes Friday night with a final Major League Soccer doubleheader. The Charleston Battery plays the San Jose Earthquakes at 6 PM in a first ever match-up between the two sides. At 8:15 PM the final game of the tournament features last seasons Carolina Challenge Cup winners the Columbus Crew and the reigning National Champions, DC United.
With each team having now played twice the tournament title is still very much up for grabs. San Jose leads with 4 points and a better goal differential than the Columbus Crew who also has 4 points. The Battery just edges DC United for third position with both teams holding just one point but Charleston having a better goal differential.

Easter Egg Hunt at half-time
There will be a massive Easter Egg hunt at half time during the first match of the doubleheader on Friday. 2,500 Easter Eggs will be dispersed on the stadium field to be hunted down by children attending the match.
