Big South Women's Championship
Charleston, SC. The Big South Women's Soccer Championships will be held at Blackbaud Stadium this coming weekend with games being played Thursday, November 4 – Saturday, November 6. The tournament features the Big South regular season champions UNC Ashville in addition to Birmingham Southern, Radford, Liberty, High Point, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop. Charleston Southern opens its campaign on Thursday night with a 7:30 PM match versus Radford.
UNC Asheville defeated VMI last Saturday afternoon, 4-0, finishing the Big South season with a 6-0-2 record for 20 points and winning the regular-season title, one point ahead of Birmingham-Southern (6-1-1, 19 points). It is the Bulldogs' first-ever Women's Soccer regular-season championship, and earns them the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
Birmingham-Southern receives the No. 2 seed, while Radford (5-1-2, 17 points) secures the No. 3 position. Liberty, which shared the regular-season title last year, finished fourth at 4-2-2 for 14 points in the Conference. High Point, which won last year’s tournament, finished at No. 5 with a 4-4-0 Conference record for 12 points. Charleston Southern, ended at No. 6 (3-3-2, 11 points). Coastal Carolina, the 2003 regular-season co-champion and voted this year's preseason favorite, was seventh with a 2-5-1 record (7 points), while Winthrop finished eighth at 1-7-0 (3 points).
The 2004 Big South Women's Soccer Championship begins Thursday, Nov. 4 with four games, and concludes with the Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
