Battery to open cup campaign at Blackbaud versus Central Florida on June 12
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery (USL 1) will play the Central Florida Kraze (PDL – Orlando, FL) in the first round of the 2007 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup; the game will be played on Tuesday, June 12 at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island with kick off set for 7:30 PM (gates 6:30 PM). This is the Battery’s opening game of the 2007 tournament; in 2006 Charleston advanced to the fourth round, losing on PK’s to Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation’s National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor long-time soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
At stake in the tournament is $180,000 in prize money broken down as follows: $100,000 to the champion, $50,000 to the runner up and $10,000 to the team which advances deepest in the tournament from each of the Division II, Division III and amateur levels.

Battery faces California Victory tonight – listen live on REAL 1340
The Charleston Battery plays the California Victory tonight in San Francisco; kick off is set for 10 PM EST. The game is available in Charleston on REAL 1340 AM or on the web at USLLive.com. The Battery (2-2-2) enters the game on the back of a 2-0 win versus the Atlanta Silverbacks in a game played last Saturday at Blackbaud Stadium.
Charleston concludes its two match road-swing on Saturday with an 8:05 PM game versus the Minnesota Thunder.
