College of Charleston midfielder Troy Lesesne joins the Charleston Battery for the 2005 USL First Division season

Battery Signs Troy Lesesne
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has signed College of Charleston midfielder Troy Lesesne. Lesesne was the Battery's second round draft pick in Tuesday's USL First Division College Player Draft. A native of Columbia, SC, Lesesne was a key member of the Cougar team that won the 2004 SoCon Championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1996.

"Troy has grown as a player over the past four years at the College of Charleston and has proved that he now deserves a chance to take his game to the next level. He is a skillful individual and has the potential to be a very exciting player".

A four-year starter at the College of Charleston, Lesesne enjoyed his best-ever season in 2004 leading the Cougars in both assists (10) and shots on goal (30). His 10 assists also led the Southern Conference. Lesesne's four-year totals for the Cougars include 78 games played with 10 goals and 15 assists. In 2004 Lesesne was named to the NSCAA All-American second team.

A native of Columbia, SC, and a graduate of Brookland-Cayce high school, Lesesne, 5'7, 145 lbs., 21 yrs., is majoring in Communication.

The College of Charleston had a stellar season in 2004 posting a 17-6-1 overall and 5-1-1 record in the Southern Conference. Their 17 wins put them 14th in the nation in winning percentage this year. The regular season included impressive wins over then 11th-ranked St. John's and then 15th-ranked South Carolina. The Cougars won the 2004 SoCon tournament, advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1996. They defeated South Carolina in the first round before succumbing to UNC Greensboro in the second round.

The Charleston Battery will open its 2005 campaign at home on April 23 with a match versus the Atlanta Silverbacks; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. Two of the Battery's matches will be broadcast live on the FOX Soccer Channel; July 17 at home versus the Richmond Kickers and August 12 away versus the Atlanta Silverbacks.
