Battery Loses To Rhinos In OT
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery lost to the Rochester Raging Rhinos tonight in OT by a score of two goals to one at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 3,012. With the loss Charleston drops to 12-4-3, 39 points but remains in first position in the Southeast Division. Rochester improves to 12-4-2, 38 points and moves into first in the Northeast Division.

Rochester opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Midfielder, David Hayes sent in a curling cross from the right-flank. Forward, Doug Miller met the ball and sent a glancing header into the left side of the goal.

In stoppage time at the end of the first half Charleston almost drew level. Ted Chronopoulos was fouled at the edge of the box earning Charleston a free-kick. Forward, Paul Conway too the kick but his shot cannoned back off the goal-post.

In the 59th minute Charleston finally broke through. Conway played a ball sharply through the middle for an on-running Josh Henderson. Henderson took a touch and then fired past Rhinos goalkeeper, Billy Andracki for the goal.

Both teams had chances as regulation wound down. Dusty Hudock made two good saves to deny Rochester, once from a David Hayes point-blank shot and the other from forward, Kirk Wilson in the 90th minute.

Rochester scored the winning goal in the 98th minute. Defender, Bill Sedgewick sent the ball into the middle after a corner-kick came across to him at the far side of the box. Substitute, Jamel Mitchell met the cross and snapped a header past Hudock into the goal.

The Battery heads north for a two-match road-swing next weekend. Friday the Battery plays the Toronto Lynx (7:30 pm, WTMZ 910 AM) then Sunday Charleston takes on the Rochester Raging Rhinos (6:05 PM, WTMZ 910 AM).
