Battery loses to Impact
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery lost to the Montreal Impact by a score of one goal to none tonight at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 3,537. Midfielder Masahiro Fukasawa slotted home the lone goal of the match in the 64th minute. The Battery drops to a record of 7-11-3, 24 points, 6th position in the USL First Division. Montreal improves to 11-1-5, 38 points and remains in first place.

The Battery recorded the first shot of the game in the 6th minute. Forward Lazo Alavanja broke a tackle twenty yards out but his right-footed attempt sailed high.

In the 43rd minute Battery goalkeeper Mike Behonick was forced into action as midfielder Patrick Leduc hit a hard shot from just outside the box. Behonick dove to his left and tipped the ball wide of the goal.

Montreal broke the deadlock in the 64th minute. Midfielder Ze Roberto drove down the left touchline then cut the ball back across the box. Fukasawa ran onto the cross and lashed the ball home from just inside the penalty area.

In the 70th minute Charleston forward Usiel Vasquez worked himself into a shooting position at the left edge of the 18-yard box. He held off his defender then hit a shot at the goal that beat goalkeeper Greg Sutton but cannoned back into play off the cross-bar.

In stoppage time at the end of the game the Battery had one final chance as substitute forward Greg Simmonds was fouled at the edge of the box. Alavanja bent the ball around the wall but it missed just wide of the right post.
