Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery welcomes the Richmond Kickers to Blackbaud Stadium Saturday night for a USL First Division match; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The game is the fourth and final meeting between the two club's this season; the Battery leads the series with two wins and one loss. Charleston enters the game needing a win to keep its playoff hopes alive whereas Richmond will be looking to win to secure a first-round bye in the postseason.

Charleston is currently in ninth position in the USL First Division with a record of 7-13-4, 25 points; only the top six teams make the playoffs. The Battery dropped a 2-1 decision to the Atlanta Silverbacks in a game played last Friday night in Atlanta. Richmond is in third position in the league with a record of 10-7-7, 37 points; the top two teams receive a bye in the first round of the post-season.

Richmond defeated the Battery 2-0 in the first game between the teams on May 30 in Richmond. Charleston leveled the series with a 2-1 win at Blackbaud on June 17, the goals were scored by Lazo Alavanja and Usiel Vasquez. The Battery fought Richmond to a 1-0 victory to take the series lead on July 17 in Richmond; Kickers defender Pete Luzak scored an own-goal that decided that match.

The Battery will be without midfielder Ugo Okoye for Saturday's game. Okoye is serving the first of a two-game suspension for point’s accumulation.

Richmond is led by sixth year head coach, Leigh Cowlishaw. Cowlishaw has been a part of the Kickers organization since its inception in 1993, helping Richmond to the "double" (USL Championship / US Open Cup) as a player in 1995. Cowlishaw took Richmond to the brink of the USL First Division Championship in 2002 as a coach but saw his team lose in OT to the Milwaukee Wave United in the final.
