Major League Soccer's Kevin Anderson Signs.

8/02/2001 -The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with Major League Soccer's Kevin Anderson, he will be available for this weekends match against the Nashville Metros. Anderson (29) joins the Battery from MLS affiliate, the Tampa Bay Mutiny where he has spent the last two seasons. Prior to the Mutiny, Anderson played with MLS's Colorado Rapids. The Bohemia NY native has played for the Charleston Battery twice in the last two years, on loan from the Tampa Bay Mutiny. Most recently he played in the key, June 13th 1-0 road victory over the Richmond Kickers.

Head Coach Alan Dicks, " Kevin joins us at an important point of the season and with his experience he will be a factor in our run to the play-offs. We've been fortunate enough to have had him on loan so we know exactly what he's capable of. This is a strong addition to the Battery roster."

Anderson has played in the A-League before. In 1998 he was a part of the Minnesota Thunder side that lost the A-League Championship game to the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Before playing for Minnesota, Anderson was a Long Island Rough Rider, winning a national Championship with them in 1995.

A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, Anderson was a two time All American and led SCSU to the 1992 NCAA Division II Championship. He has played for the U.S. National team at the U-18 and U-20 levels.

Battery vs Metros.
The Charleston Battery heads west this weekend for an important match against its Central Conference rival, the Nashville Metros. The Battery is currently in 2nd place in the A-League Central Conference with a record of, 11-6-1, 50 points. Nashville is in 3rd place with a record of 10-7-2, 46 points. The Metros enter the game after a huge week that saw them win three times. Last weekend Nashville defeated the Long Island Rough Riders and the Cincinnati Riverhawks. Then on Wednesday the Metros scored a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks.

The Charleston Battery has faced the Nashville Metros on two previous occasions this year. Back on May 26th Charleston handed Nashville a 5-2 defeat at Blackbaud Stadium. Then on June 9th, the Battery and the Metros played to a 2-2 tie in Nashville. The second match was the latter part of a tough back-to-back weekend for Charleston.

Striker Paul Conway has scored four goals against Nashville in the 2001 season. The League-leading goal-scorer notched a hat-trick in the first game between the two clubs, then scored again when the Battery visited Nashville.

Mac Cozier named to A-League Team of the Week.
Forward Mac Cozier has been named to the A-League Team of the Week, following his two goal, first half outburst, in last weekends 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Riverhawks. Cozier converted a penalty kick for his first goal, then hit a bullet-shot through a crowd of players to record his second. This is Cozier's second season with the Charleston Battery. In 2000 he finished second in team scoring with 11 goals and 5 assists in 27 matches.

An Orange Park, Florida native, Cozier started his pro career in 1996 with the Columbus Crew. He appeared in 13 games for the Crew before being traded to the San Jose Clash (Earthquakes) in 1997. After being waived by the Clash, he was picked up by the Richmond Kickers (A-League). In 1998 he moved to Chile, where he scored 10 goals in 26 games for Club Deportiva Antofagasta (Chilean Division II). Cozier was a two time First Team NCAA Division I All-American at UNC Charlotte.
