The Battery's territorial draft pick in the 2000 A-League College Draft, Campbell joins the club for his rookie year as a pro keeper. A strong and intimidating presence in goal, he inherited the starting keeper spot at Clemson in 1998 from Matt Jordan who now tends goal for the Dallas Burn (MLS). Campbell leaves Clemson ranking third all-time in Tiger history in goals against average and holding the school record for shutouts in the ACC with six. He played 3,891 minutes and 49 games for Clemson and helped them to the quarter-finals of the 1998 NCAA Division I tournament in 1998. Campbell was a 1998 Soccer News First Team All American, 1998 First Team All ACC selection and the 1998 ACC Tournament MVP.
